Due to the popularity of WordPress, WordPress is now becoming the platform that most hackers attack. This doesn’t mean that WordPress is less secure than other content management platform. It is just attacked because of the volume of sites out there using WordPress.
What happens when a WordPress site is hacked?
Most of the time WordPress sites are defaced and eventually taken offline by your hosting provider. Having your website temporarily taken offline is the best case scenario. In the more malicious attacks websites have been known to send out spam, have a malicious redirect, host a phishing page or even distribute malware.
An attack on your website is dangerous to not only your business, but also to your customers. If you don’t have a full time web developer on your team, you may not realize that your website has been attacked until a customer brings it to your attention. You DO NOT want this to happen.
What are some things you can do to prevent your website from being hacked?
- Choose a complex password
WordPress now has a password generator tool built in. Use this generator tool to generate a long, secure password. A secure password should be 12-16 characters long, be completely random and include number, letters and symbols. Please do not cop out on this one. Change your password to something secure today.
- Enable 2-Factor Authentication
Unfortunately it is not enough to have a strong password. To take added measures to protect your website you need to set up 2-Factor Authentication. It might take a little longer to log onto your website. But hackers won’t be able to get into your website unless they have access to your phone. If you don’t know how to set up 2-Factor Authentication give me a call today to help you out.
Remember your website is one of the first things that people see when they are searching for you online. You don’t want to take any chances with the first impression of your site. Make sure that your WordPress site is secure today. Give me a call if you have any questions. 865-742-4076
