Robotics Revolution

Agilibility had the chance to introduce kids and parents to virtual reality at the Robotics Revolution this weekend. With over 1,500 in attendance to this event hosted by The Muse at the Jacobs Building, we estimate that at least 500 of those in attendance got to take a journey into space through the Oculus Rift. We had a constant line of people from the moment the exhibit opened until we closed up.

This was the first time these kids had been exposed to the Oculus Rift and they were so excited to see what all the rage was about. The kids who tried the Oculus Rift were anywhere from 4 years old up to 18. We even had some parents that were eager to take a trip into Space.

The simulation we used was Discovering Space, which can be found and downloaded for free from the Oculus Rift Share Store. With Discovering Space, the kids were able to fly around the solar system and visit all of the planets and many of the moons.

We also had 2 Google Cardboards with simulations running. Google Cardboard is an inexpensive alternative to the more expensive Oculus Rift. With prices starting at around $10 on Amazon, anyone with a newer smart phone can run virtual reality simulations using the Google Cardboard. It’s not nearly as immersive as the Oculus Rift, but it’s a good start to get a feeling for what modern-day virtual reality has to offer without spending $500+. Most simulations available for Google Cardboard are free and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Thank you so much to The Muse for inviting us to participate in this incredible event! We had a blast connecting with some great people and loved being able to share virtual reality with so many people. Our kids not only got to take part in this event and share their own excitement of virtual reality, but they also got to see some amazing things like a live call with a NASA astronaut, a wide range a robots, 3-d printers, hands-on experiments and robot wrestling.
